How are the Manuelitas projected
nationally and internationally?
Right now, we are heading towards a second stage that
is part of the 7 Transformations announced by President
Nicolás Maduro, and through the Manuelitas we seek to
diversify and add more, reaching the bases and the most
vulnerable territories.
Attending to them in the area of health, instructing them
on non-violence and that they know the roadmap in de-
fense of their rights.
We have also joined the Communes, we are reaching the
bases joining the areas of economic development of the
country, we work hand in hand with the Minister of Women,
Johana Carrillo, and the Josefa Joaquina Sánchez Move-
ment, which groups more than 300 other movements of
the country in fishing, technology, entrepreneurs, etc.
This year we will be participating in an international event
in June with the Unitary Federation of Transport, Ports, Fi-
shing and Communication in America - FUTAC to project
ourselves even more.
What training areas are beneficial for
female transporters?
Our women are permanently trained in mechanics
and also so that they learn to handle themselves in
administrative matters.
At the National Urban Transport Fund Foundation (Fontur)
they receive light mechanics workshops, we also have
projects for children, in the ministry the children of the
workers have a preschool where they are cared for while
their mothers work and soon, we will make a certification
of knowledge so that those trades that our women know
how to do are recognized.
Learning from example
Eliana Salazar has a degree in Tourism Business
Administration, her passion for helping and her vocation
for pursuing her career led her to be part of the country’s
transportation sector 15 years ago.
Her mother, Mrs. Aminta, always drove a school bus and
with that, together with her father, they sustained the
home where Eliana grew up. When her parents reached
a certain age, she decided to take the reins of that family
sustenance.
She herself drove that school bus that made so many
children happy and also lived a stage of her life that she
never imagined, the hours of transport were a relaxation
for her.
She only stopped doing it when her daughter was born, 15
years ago; however, after she was born, she took her with
her while she transported the children.
In view of the collective benefit that she achieved with this,
she decided to create a transport cooperative that she
called “Transportes Aminta”, in honor of her mother, and
from there the company Amintur emerged.
Eliana knows what it feels like to drive a transport for the
sustenance of her home, she knows what it feels like to
serve others and that is why the motto of the Movement
she leads is “For peace and life the manuelitas always
united”.
